My manager mentioned I should start keeping examples for my KSBs, but I’m still mostly learning how things work. Are people writing proper pieces for their portfolio from the start or just keeping notes for now? Don’t want to leave it too late but not sure how much I’m supposed to be doing yet
I’d keep decent notes as you go rather than try to write a perfect portfolio piece after every little task. What you did, what you learnt and where the evidence is saved. You can tidy it up later, but I wouldn’t leave collecting it all until the end. I’d forget half of it
So notes first, proper write-up later?
I’d check with whoever reviews your evidence before leaving the write-ups until later. Rough notes are useful but if your provider wants something submitted regularly you’ll still need to do that. Ask to see an example too, much easier than guessing how much detail they want.
Yeah I’ll ask what they actually want at the next review. I think I’ve been treating ‘start saving examples’ as ‘write up everything I’ve done’ which probably wasn’t what they meant
Wait you have to keep evidence of the work as well? I’d only really thought about doing the job and the college side
Yeah, KSBs are the knowledge, skills and behaviours you’re meant to develop. The evidence gives examples of you using them at work. A portfolio can support parts of your end-point assessment, but the exact setup depends on the apprenticeship. It’s not meant to be a diary of every little thing you do
